Social Care Agency Costs Mounting

4 Feb 2023

Over the last 3 years Swansea Council has spent more than £485,000 on agency staff for Social Care, at a time when there are more than 30 vacancies across adult and child social care.

The Welsh Liberal Democrat group on Swansea Council are calling on the Labour administration to channel the current spend on agency bank-staff in social care into improving pay and conditions for Social Care staff, filling gaps in the current staffing and improving staff retention in this vital service.

Commenting, Leader of the Opposition Cllr Chris Holley said: “For vulnerable adults and children across the City and County of Swansea, it is vital we all work together to bring agency costs under control, and better utilise that money to improve staff recruitment and retention”.

Cllr Sam Bennett added: “As the Official Opposition we will work with the Labour administration to ensure vulnerable people are looked after, ensuring that money currently spent on social care is getting to where it needs to be.”
