Labour council raise council tax by 6%
Council tax will go up by 5.95% this April, after the ruling Labour group rejected a Lib Dem amendment to for a lower amount.
The Liberal Democrat leader of the opposition on Swansea Council, Cllr Chris Holley, called on the ruling group to “give residents a break” during a cost of living crisis. However, the Lib Dem amendment was rejected and Labour have gone ahead with a big tax rise.
Council tax has now risen by over 50% in the last 10 years as the ruling Labour group try to find more money for their city centre vanity projects.
Meanwhile basic services continue to decline. The Lib Dems are calling for the Council to focus on “getting the basics right” - for example by tackling the backlog of road maintenance and pot holes, or tackling the fly-tipping epidemic across the city.
